Dimitri Bianco was frustrated with a lack of career services after graduate school and decided to start a YouTube channel in 2015 to help other students after he started his first job doing model implementation (quant dev) and model development (quant research). The channel grew alongside of his career and he started covering technical topics on quantitative finance, risk management, and career development. He started his career in quantitative finance in 2014 and contributed to the creation of modern risk management in the finance industry, all sparked by the Dodd Frank Act of 2010. By the age of 30 he was an Associate Director at a top 20 global bank and lead model validation (model risk management) projects. He went on to help firms build quantitative teams and set up the quant team at a fintech where he was the Head of Quantitative Risk and Research.
Along this journey he realized there was a need for the industry to embrace the Wall Street business side which was typically senior leaders in suits while also brining in the technical skills of quantitative finance. Out of this the term, “Fancy Quant” was born. In 2025 Dimitri started Fancy Quant LLC as a way to bring together his quant finance, academic, and career development experience.
